There it is, our overview of our selections for this years mothers day. If you are a mom, these dresses are just right to celebrate your day in. Most items can also be legitimately worn by daughters too, but we leave one piece just for mom—so you don’t outshine her. However, if you know your mom is already going to have a killer dress then pick from any of our selections. Daughter friendly suggestions are marked with an asterisk.
We’ve posted these fairly early, so there is plenty of time to get your outfit before your big day. Also, if you happen to already have something to wear, these might make terrific gifts for your mom. Maybe you aren’t celebrating mother’s day this year, these dresses are so gorgeous passing them up might be hard, you might just have to find or make an occasion to wear them.
Style 1: Mummy, mommy, ma
At first glance it may not bring your mind straight to Egypt, but I think Cleopatra herself would have fancied this dress. This dress style is all about the signature bandeau style wrap. It highlights the shape of your body but provides a close, not a tight fit. Dress, $188.
For day wear our selection comes in soft and pretty multicolor print: with yellows, purples, greens and a little black and white to make those colors pop. A brilliant look for a special Sunday brunch at somewhere fancy—if you leave near a beach perhaps a restaurant nearby will be your destination. Be sure to take pictures, it should be an occasion to remember, if only for one reason—you’ll look stunning.*
Our night version of this dress is actually the exact by the same designer, it’s just the same dress with another color story. Firey reds mix with orange, pink, and purple tones to create a darker look. This I think would be ideal for the family perhaps who goes our for Karaoke or to have a few drinks, or both.*
Style 2: Stand out in purple
The day look is something I see befitting to wear to Church on this special Sunday. I’d say go the whole way and find a hat to highlight that you, and all mothers should be guests of honor today. To make it more conservative this would pair exquisitely with a crisp cardigan in black or white. This shade of purple, a light lilac, exudes elegance. Dress, $128. *
The night look is a rich dark purple plum. A more structured dress is just the right style for moms who get to spend their nights out at the opera, or some other theater show. The sophisticated signature of a woman whose an artist in her own right, this majestic color is pure decadence on both older and younger women. Dress, $148.
Style 3: Tiers, baby.
If your mother’s day experience is anything like mine, opening up those cards on mothers day and reading out loud results in a venerable tear fest from all the ladies. Emotional moments occur as mom finally gets the praise she deserves. Tears may capture the scene from years before, but this year tiers are on the mind. Drawing upon a flapper-era aesthetic, the tiers help define body shape but offer a relaxed enough fit that’s flirty, flowy and feminine. The soft colors keep this look playful enough to be right for both spring and summer.
The night look, a one shoulder piece that has assymetical details to dial it up a notch for some sex appeal. If you’re having sophisticated night out with adults or eating at a super fancy restaurant (or maybe you’re on a cruise, or out for a night of dancing) then this might be what you’re looking for. In a smooth lipstick red tone, beware if you’re part of the older crowd you might be called a cougar. It’s your specific night to shine, so doll yourself up, and make this a night worth remembering for years to come. Dress, $158.
